After a very busy summer I am back in the thick of funding applications as well as visiting the mountain each month.

This years’ lines have settled in better than expected and when I last looked at the end of September, algae was developing on the felts especially near to exposed mineral soil.

The 2010 line is now growing mosses as well as algae and is still mostly intact.

Erosion still continues and clearly there is a great deal of work to do. So the new idea is to help vegetation by adding seedling plants, grown from seeds gathered from the hill.

Plans for next year, 2012, include gathering cotton grass seeds at the correct time so we can grow plants to add to the lines. To do this requires a permission from the Countryside Council for Wales, another bit of administration.

In February I will be taking a walk up to look at the lines after an evening discussion event. This will be as part of the Crickhowell walking Festival so all details are on their website  http://crickhowell.eweb704.discountasp.net/default.aspx  so do come along if you can.
