Following suggestions from last year I have organised the installation of wool for next week, 6th, 7th and 8th September hoping for better weather, we will just have to wait and see.
The plan is to meet on Thursday and Friday at 9.30 am when 10 volunteers will lead ponies laden with wool up onto the hill. Once up there they are unloaded just below the peat scar and the wool has to be carried the rest of the way (in smaller loads of course). The ponies can then be ridden back down where they will be re-loaded for a second trip. On Saturday they will make only one trip, starting at 9am as hopefully we will have got all the wool up onto the hill by then. Any late arrivals please follow the way markers.
Whilst the ponies are doing their return trip the remaining volunteers will carry wool and start pegging it down. On Saturday the pegging down may well need to continue after the ponies have departed as there will be three more lines of felt to lay as well as at least 200 wool sausages. Once installed we will then have doubled last year’s efforts as we have been slowly taking wool up most of the summer, however the real picture will become visible only when Snoopy and the other gliders take their magical photos.
The link for directions below is the same as it was for 2011
We meet at Blaenau Fry where there is ample parking and, with luck, a portaloo. See attached map for directions, do not use Google maps or sat nav, unless the latter is very sophisticated as you will be directed somewhere else! There will be hot drinks and refreshments on our return to the cars park at Blaenau Fry.
It is imperative that you all know that whatever the weather it is always cold on the top! It is also very exposed and therefore the sun, when it shines can be dangerous. Please bring suitable clothing for all weather and wear appropriate footwear for a fairly steep walk on mostly grass but some stony ground. Also you will need to bring your own food and drink for a 4 hour outing. Please see the route map.
Start time on Saturday 8th September will be 9.00 at Blaenau Fry.I realise that this is early for some and if you are travelling you might like to use the lovely campsite near the pub in Cwmdu contact details
or Telephone. +44 (0) 1874 730741 (between 9.00 – 10.00 a.m. & 6.00 – 7.00 p.m.)
Hopefully the weather will be kind to us and we will have joyous days with no mishaps. I have alerted the BBNPA wardens and mountain rescue as to our plans and carried out a risk assessment but ultimately it is up to everyone to be responsible so we can all have a happy and successful few days.
Please let me know if you need more information.
